I "felt" the love...

Friday, February 5th, 2010

 It's almost Valentine's Day!

Here's a really simple and cute craft  item that you can make for a little girl.

It's a little handbag made out of felt.  Here's what you'll need:

2 pieces of felt, needle, thread, scissors, embellishment (optional)

Cut felt to shape/size that you want your bag to be.  (2 pieces - This particular bag is 6"x8". )  Pin pieces together.  When you get to the top of the bag, fold the top flaps forward so that you see the inside of the felt and pin.  Then sew together with a blanket or straight stitch.  Cut strips of different lengths and tie together for the handle and then stitch handle to attach to bag.  Embellishment is optional.  (Buttons, or ribbons work great.)

Fill the bag with Valentine goodies or a card!

Started out as one thing and ended up as another!

It started out as a piece of pink felt with white polka dots.  I bought it when visiting one of my favorite craft stores in Las Vegas -- Michael's.  I just thought the felt was cute!  So, as I was sitting, trying my best to get those creative juices flowing...hmmmm...what to do, what to do?  I've been wanting to make a little bag to carry my cellphone and office keys around the office (especially since I'm still waiting for Shannon to make me a bag--hint, hint).

So, I measure my phone, cut the felt, start stitching, and as I'm stitching, I realize that the bag is too big for my phone.  Now what am I going to do with it?  I know!  I'll make a little bag for one of our granddaughter's (but now that means I have to make 2 more because we have 3 little granddaughter's and you can't make for one and not the other's).

I finish my stitching, cut out some pieces of felt for the handle, embellish the purse flap with a three-dimensional heart, and voila!  Mini handbag for our pint-sized granddaughters...now I have to make two more!
